This 19th century salesmans sample drop leaf table is in untouched original condition and has great age and character. It has square nail construction (only a couple of nails but they are square), and is intricately put together in an unusual way as you can see which makes it a very folky piece as well. It has all the requisite wear, dings and patina of a piece from this era. It has the original hinges. It is child or doll sized but it is a salesmants sample rather than a dolls table (although it can be used for a child or as a setting accessory for an antique doll). We surmise this because it offers examples of two different kinds of construction on either side - on one side the hinges are horizontally placed while on the other side they are vertical, as shown in the pitcures. The different construction on either side was to demonstrate the types of hinges available to prospective buyers. One of the screws is missing from one of the vertically placed hinges (i hope this is readily visable in picture 6 above) . The condition of this folk -y primative piece is exactly the way I love to find it - un - retouced and original, with all the marks, mars and patina indicative great age.
