Antique Zula Kenyon original framed chromolithograph print deer elk snowThis is an original antique hand tinted chromolithograph by Zula Kenyon. Zula Kenyon was a well known early illustration artist. It probably dates to the 1900s or early 1910s. According to the Driscoll et al collector book, this print is titled "Under the Light of the Silvery Moon". Zula Kenyon did much of her work with pastels, giving a sublime look to her landscapes. Chromolithography was developed in the 1800s and was the original method of creating prints from a flat surface (often polished rock). The print was usually done only in black and then color was hand-painted onto the print. Under magnification you can easily see that this is a chromolithograph and not a modern offset print (which are made by patterns of dots). The subtle colors were likely added by hand during production. This method of printing and hand painting color accentuates the sublime nature of the image of the majestic elk in a snowy landscape under the light of the moon. It is gorgeous. The frame is likely original to the print. Overall size is 13x16 inches.
