Offered for sale is this Austrian Victorian Era fancy souvenir plate featuring a pinery or pineapple plantation from Orlando, Florida. Long before there was Orlando Disney there was fruit! In 1865 the first commercial orange grooves were planted in Orlando. Pineapples plantations or pineries followed in the 1880's. The Pineries thrived until the Big Freeze of 1894-5 which destroyed most of the smaller farms. Foreign competition e ventually put and end to the survivors. T his cool plate is stamped marked Made in Austria Expressly for T.H. Evans, The Jeweler Orlando, Fla. It measures 5" wide and is in excellent condition.
