OFFERED WITH NO RESERVE. THE 1825 FIRST EDITION OF THE ‘OPUSCOLI’ OF ANTONIO SCARPA, ADORNED WITH 12 FULL-PAGE AND FOLDING ANATOMICAL PLATES DEPICTING METHODS AND INSTRUMENTS OF SURGERY, printed in two quarto volumes at Pavia for Bizzoni, complete in all respects, and bound in early 19th century Italian half-calf over marbled boards. There seems to have been a third volume published later; if this is so, it is not present here. The two volumes are in excellent condition. The bindings show only minor wear at the edges and corners; their hinges and book-blocks are strong. Internally, the volumes are quite clean, with clear print and ample margins throughout. The titles and the final leaves show minor to moderate foxing. The plates are excellent impressions in all cases. The two volumes are complete in all respects and comprise 190 and 200 numbered pages respectively, plus titles, preliminaries, indices and the 12 plates. Each volume measures about 33 cm by 23 cm by 2.5 cm; each leaf measures about 320 mm by 215 mm. The full title reads as follows: “Opuscoli di Chirurgia di Antonio Scarpa / Professore Emerito, e Direttore della Facolta Medica Della I. R. Universita di Pavia, Cavaliere dell’Insigne Ordine Austriaco di Leopoldo, Socio della R. Accademia delle Scienze di Parigi, di Londra, di Berlino, di Stokolm, Ecc. Ecc.
