Apollo 13 Flown Embroidered Mission Insignia Patch Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James Lovell, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. This stunning 4" diameter patch, with the mission slogan "Ex Luna, Scientia" (from the moon, knowledge), flew on the near-disastrous Apollo 13 mission to the moon and back. It is signed on the verso: "Flown Patch/ James Lovell/ Apollo 13 CDR" with excellent contrast. The dramatic flight was the basis for a major motion picture in 1995, where Tom Hanks portrayed Commander Lovell. Excellent.Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Certification from Lovell on his company letterhead stating, in full: "I hereby certify that the attached Apollo 13 embroidered mission patch was on board the Apollo 13 spacecraft. Apollo 13 perilous flight took off on April 11 and returned safely on April 17, 1970. This Patch was from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."
