FedEx, UPS, and USPS all convert these dimensions into “dimensional weight” (multiply length by width by depth in inches and divide the total by 194) so that the 9 pound boxed float is charged by the shippers (FedEx/UPS/USPS) as if it weighed 38 pounds ( Ouch !). I carefully modify the sides of the factory box to bring the dimensions down to a size that allows the box to be shipped at its actual weight. The significant savings in shipping cost is passed on to you, the ebay buyer! Also, packing material is negligible, FedEx Ground is cheaper than the other shipping methods, and I live close to a FedEx drop-off location. Again, the savings are passed on to the eBay buyer.
