2 Antique Prints - ENGLISH MILITARY EXERCISE Aquatints 1784These are 100% authenticated by the Military Artifact House named and affixed to the back of one of the prints. These were made in 1794 using an aquatint method where each color is hand painted.These are 2 of 4 plates that were made by ALEX HOGG (1778 - 1819). These prints are of;The OLD ENGLISH HALBERT EXERCISE AND DOUBLE ARMED MEN - Plate 4. The publishers name is on the upper left corner. The lower right corner looks as if it might have been torn. There are ripples running throughout the bottom of the print. The condition and color is astonishing after 230 years. The Art Dealer W.King Ambler label is on the back of this piece.The other aquatint - Plate II of THE OLD ENGLISH PIKE EXERCISE is in decent shape but does show some wear especially in the lower left quadrant and the date is on the upper right corner.I guess I would say these prints are in Fair to Good condition at best??? ...far from excellent or mint...but they are 230 years old!!!The frames are very substandard in my opinion. The matting is excellent and the prints are complete and all have good color. There are issues as stated above, probably more, as well as I cannot say if the upper boarder as seen in the art dealers books is attached or not.
