This rare arched wooden smoothing board/"scrubbing stick" came from the estate of a collector of primitive washing and ironing implements here in southern New England. The collector was well travelled and had pieces from all over the world. * This one is American, hand made, from early 1800's (based on information from Berney's book, see reference below) * The board measures 27" long by 2-7/8" wide by 1-3/4" thick over the ribs * There are 24 ribs * The board has a beautiful patina from age * Similar boards are pictured in Esther S. Berney's book, A Collector's Guide To PRESSING IRONS and TRIVETS , page 9, plates 9C, 9D and 10B. * There is a hole in the end of the handle where a rope or cord was inserted to hang the board on the wall * This board is in excellent condition and would make a fine addition to any collection of early irons or laundry tools. * There is NO RESERVE! * There is NO HANDLING CHARGE! Connecticut residents without a valid tax ID are subject to 6% Sales Tax on Purchase Price SHIPPING: * Buyer pays postage * This item can be picked up here in Coventry, CT at no charge. * Or it will be shipped within 1 business day after receipt of payment via USPS Priority or Parcel Post Mail * Insurance is included * International customers should request shipping costs. * Where possible, we will gladly combine purchases
