Arkham House "THE ABOMINATIONS OF YONDO" by Clark Ashton, First Edition, 1960, Limited Edition (2005 copies) BOOK: Truly a magnificent, early book by Arkham House, Sauk City, Wisconsin. And in GREAT condition. 227 pages, original price $4.00 (not clipped). Limited Edition (2005 copies) hardback with dust jacket. Jacket design is the work of Ronald Clyne and Wynn Bullock, and features one of Smith's sculptures. Smith's fourth collection of weird stories, mostly written in the 1930s. CONDITION: Book is a solid Fine (black novelex is bright with no fading, and only minor edge wear -- gold spine lettering is bright with no rubbing). The only real fault it has is a rather attractive (and large) former owner's name stamp (complete with pentagram, dragon, etc.) on the FFEP (can be seen in the photos below). Interior is tight and white, no foxing, just some very minor yellowing (typical) to the text block with age. Dust jacket is a Very Good, with just a few imperfections (most booksellers would call this a Near Fine, but I grade conservatively and extensively). Front panel is still very bright with almost perfect reflectivity. T is no fading to this panel. Front panel has some minor wear to edges, with the most notable a small chip at the top (can be seen in the scan). Spine is also free from toning or fading (maybe just a wee bit). Has edge wear to head (mostly) and heel (minor). Back panel as well is bright, with edge wear. T is a small 1" closed tear at the bottom (does not affect words, just into the green). The flaps are still fairly bright and have just minor edge wear (particularly the back flap w it attaches to the back flap, just a bit of chipping on the upper corner). The front panel has some ink on the right of the flap, which seems to have come from the former owner not letting his stamp dry completely. It is mostly at the edge, and a few little dots go into some of the words (all is still readable, and fairly minor for the most part). Overall a solid VG to VG+. As with all of our books and ephemera, the item you see in the scans/photos is the item you will receive (no stock photos). Dust jacket is in a protective brodart. A bright and attractive copy.
