Box has normal storage wear. This diecast model was stored or displayed in a smoke-free, climate controlled environment. This model is from my private collection and includes all original packaging unless otherwise noted. This plane does not come with a white shipping box. It was purchased at a hobby store. AIRCRAFT HISTORY The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Würger, was a single-seat, single-engine fighter aircraft designed by Kurt Tank for Germany's Luftwaffe. Used extensively during the Second World War, over 20,000 were manufactured, including around 6,000 fighter-bomber models. Production ran from 1941 to the end of hostilities, during which time the aircraft was continually updated. Its later versions retained qualitative parity with Allied fighter aircraft, but Germany was not able to produce the aircraft in enough numbers to affect the outcome of the war. The Fw 190 was well-liked by its pilots, and was quickly proven to be superior to the RAF's main front line fighter, the Spitfire Mk. V, on its combat debut in 1941. Compared to the Bf 109, the Fw 190 was a "workhorse", employed in and proved suitable for a wide variety of roles, including air superiority fighter, ground attack, fighter-bomber, long-range bomber escort, and night fighter. The Fw 190 was the scourge of Fighter Command from the moment it appeared on the Western Front at Aabeville in August 1941 with II./JG26. Nimble, speedy and armed to the teeth, the 'Butcher Bird' quickly gained a reputation making it one of the most formidable opponents of the Allied fighters and at medium and low altitudes was considered by many as superior. "Pioneer Wing" - Jagdgeschwader 1 (JG 1) used primarily Messerschmitt Bf-109E-1s and Focke-Wulf Fw-190s between 1940 and 1944. The name of the unit derives from Jagd, meaning "hunt" and Geschwader, meaning "wing". First formed in May 1939 in eastern Prussia, I./JG 1 was one of the original groups created by the Luftwaffe as part of its expansion plans. From 1940 until 1942, JG 1 operated primarily over the Western Front and northern occupied Europe. During the initial days of the war, JG 1 faced little resistance, apart from occasional Royal Air Force (RAF) excursions. The unit was rarely engaged in large-scale confrontations during this time. From 1942 onwards it was tasked with defense of the Reich duties, which took a heavy toll of both pilots and planes. After D-Day, elements of JG 1 were moved to France and were tasked with providing air support to the army Wehrmacht, along with their normal air defense role against Allied bombers. Towards the end of the war, JG 1 was tasked with Defense of the Reich. Operation Bodenplatte severely sapped the strength of JG 1 like most other wings (Geschwader) of the Luftwaffe. Towards the end of the war, the unit was disbanded and its remaining pilots and aircraft were re-organized into two new groups.
