“ARMSMEAR; THE HOME, THE ARM,AND THE ARMORY OF SAMUEL COLT. A MEMORIAL” You are viewing an exceptional copy of ARMSMEAR, the beautiful tribute to Samuel Colt done by his wife after his death. The book was published in 1866 in New York , with a very limited private printing by Alvord to honor the life and achievements of America ’s foremost armorer. Cover is deep blue pebbled with gilt armorials and rules on the front and back covers and gilt lettering on the spine. All three edges of pages are gilt. Book is 399 pages, with steel-engraved plates including frontispiece portrait of Samuel Colt and beautifully detailed view of his home, with tissue guards. T are 82 illustrations including maps, textual vignettes, and full-page plates depicting various Colt firearms. T are some brown foxing spots on the first few pages. All tissue guards are in excellent condition, a rare find in such an old volume. Pages and page edges are excellent. Cover is in good condition considering its age. We’ve attempted to show all areas that have issues in the attached pictures, specifically top, bottom and front crease of spine, lower edge of back cover, and corners of cover. Cover is still vivid blue, and gilt is bright, though color and gilt are less bright on front and spine. Edge gilt is bright and intact. This is an exceptional copy of this wonderful read more
