US Army Air Forces officers of WW2 were expected to purchase their own uniforms and headgear, and an entire industry sprang up to cater to their needs. AAF officers could choose from a wide variety of materials for their visor cap, ranging from everyday wool to the finest fur felt. This US Army AAF WW2 OFFICER KNOX FUR FELT SERVICE DRESS VISOR CAP is in very good condition, with some indenting to the middle front hatband, three small spots of mothing at the top front right crown, a small spot of whitish soiling at the back left crown, some scattered nicking, scratching, and darkening at the underside of the visor, some light loose stitching at the middle front sweatband, and with some light overall age wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the cap is in fine shape, with no other damage to the elegant fur felt construction. Most interestingly, it features a beautiful russet leather visor, chinstrap, and back strap, bears a US Army officer's "spread eagle" brass hat device affixed "front and center", and is complete with both of the original gilt side buttons. The cap is approximately a Size 7 1/4, marked to the famous "KNOX / NEW YORK" under the amber plastic full "hair guard" liner, and carries the hand marked "calling card" of "LT. H.T. SIPE" inside.
