This is a pair of US Army Air Force Glider Pilot Wings and was made by the L.G. Balfour Company of Attlebororo, Mass. It is stamped LGB and sterling on the back (inside the shield). The wing is 3" wide and is pinbacked. The USAAF had one primary glider the Waco CG-4 series of which nearly 16,000 were built. Each had a crew of two and could carry up to 15 troops or 2 tons of supplies, six medical cases on strechers. a Jeep or an artillery field piece. Gliders contributed heavily to the success of D-Day by enabling the Allies to drop troops and equipment far behing the landing beaches. The free listing tool.
