Beautiful Art Deco 1929 Western Electric 102 Desk B1 Telephone & Seamless E1Working Rare Art Deco 1929 Western Electric 102 Desk (B1) Telephone #4 Dial and E1 Handset634 Ringer Box Wired, Tested & Guaranteed to Work and RingThis is a 1929 beautifully restored Western Electric 102 B1 desk style telephone. The round metal base is marked B1 on the back and around the bottom rim it is marked:WESTERN ELECTRIC MADE IN USA PAT IN USASEPT 16 24 PATS APP FORThis is a rare pre depression Western Electric dial telephone. This model of telephone was only produced for two years 1928 and 1929. When the depression hit Western Electric switched from the 102 desk set to the 202 desk style telephones to save production costs. This is a beautiful Western Electric 102 round base style desk set. The paint is original and shows only minor wear around the cradle, normally these phones have heavy wear in this area. These were some of the earliest style Western Electric desk sets with a round base marked on the back below the switch hook "B1". The 102 (B1 housing-round base) was made for only 2 years (1928-1929) and it is the model before the 202 (D1 housing-oval base). These were the transition between Western Electric candlestick style desk sets and the later 202 desk sets.The number 4 H dial on this round base 102 desk set sits on the top of the base, just like Western Electric dial candlesticks. Dials on later 202 desk sets were recessed into the base so the top of the dial is flush with the base.The #4 dial has been cleaned, lightly oiled and checked for proper return speed. The face plate has black letters and red numbers which are clear and crisp.The number card holder has a number card reads:(arrow shows direction of dial)REMOVE RECEIVERPUT FINGER IN HOLEOVER FIRST FIGURE WANTED,RETURN TO STOP AND LET GO.REPEAT OPERATION FOREACH SUCCEEDING FIGURE.WESTERN ELECTRICCOMPANYINC.The base cover is the original suede leather. The cords are brown braided cloth covered. The receiver and line cords two are high quality new cloth braided cords made like the originals.The E1 handset was developed to combine the receiver and transmitter into one unit. Prior phones were candlesticks and the transmitter was part of the phone limited the user to speaking into the entire phone. This is a seamless E1 handset which are the earlier style of this handset. This desirable 102 B-1 housing phone with #4H It is fully operational, it rings and talks like it did almost 90 years ago. You can receive and dial out calls with this phone.It has a great old smooth operating very desirable The dial has been cleaned, oiled and tested to bell system standards.
