Auction D escription This pair depicts Egyptian King & Queen Pharaohs in a form designed to resemble the ancient ruins of those famous colossal monuments and statues that were the craze during the surge in all things Egyptian and exotic - the Egyptian Revival. The King and Queen are shown sitting side by side on a large throne, wearing substantial headpieces that possess vivid, lively colors. It is my pleasure, once again, to offer this pair of highly sought after bookends to this online community. Made in the mid 1920's, this bronze clad set is not only one of the finest but also one of the rarest and lesser seen sets that I personally have come across only a few times. The ones that I have seen were always in a monochromatic finish, and additionally, I've never seen these listed in any antique bookend reference guide - neither the mono nor polychrome variety. Sets that I have run across in the past were made by the Galvano Bronze Co. However, this pair is most likely an Armor Bronze set, having a bit more detail that includes depictions of moons, suns, and stars and odd pairings of letters and hieroglyphs. You will find this pair to be in good condition, especially taking its age into account.
