Height : 14 cms / 5 ½” This stunning Art Deco cameo glass vase has an amber/orangeground with a deep purple overlay that has been deeply cut and etched with geometric zig-zags, stars and stylised floral motifs. The purple colour appears as a dark brown / black against the pale, slightly textured, ground. The base is ground flat, and has some wear around the edges. Unsigned. Offered in excellent condition, with no breaks or chips. Made at the Sklarna Glass House, Klostermuhle, Bohemia. A similar vase was used on posters and on the cover of a book illustrating a 1980’s national exhibition of iconic Czech glass, (which can be found with a search of Art Deco Czech cameo glass,( images) and another example, dated c 1924, can be seen on the website of Roger Harris: Art Nouveau Glass : Other Glass houses / Art Deco Glass). I am unable to find any other examples of this particular design, and am unsure of its date of production. It is possible that it is an original 1920’s vase, or a later production? No doubt someone out there will know, and I would be grateful for any further information. It is an outstanding, and very beautiful object, which would, no doubt, have been expensive to produce, and would display well with any collection of art glass by such as Daum, Galle, Le Verre Francais, Almaric Walter, Karl Palda, or Muller Freres. read more
