This is a wonderful lithographic print taken from the original 1927 artwork of Erte. This was the "Angel" costume from the 1927 production of "George White's Scandals", which was similar to and a competitor of the Ziefeld Follies. Erte was a Russian-born French designer, painter and sculptor. He is now best known for his fashion illustrations, but began his career as an artist and a designer of advertising posters. His drawings, many of which began to appear the fashion magazine “Harper's Bazaar”, epitomised the opulence, elegance and fun of the Art Deco period in the early 20th Century. This was a time when social restraints were being relaxed and for the first time luxury goods and high fashion were becoming big business. With increasing success, Erte went on to design costumes and sets for theatre, cabaret, opera, ballet and cinema. The print is in excellent condition with no rips tears or creases. There is a small production blemish to the top left hand corner but once mounted and framedthis willnot be seen. The print measures approx 23 x 16cm and has no border around it. There is a small amount of text(6 words to be exact), printed small, to the verso which cannot be seen through the high quality, glossy paper and will not spoil your enjoyment of this lovely print.
