'News + Weather #53 [Tokyo], 2005' The work is taken from an upcoming artist book that Matthew is producing (also called News + weather ) and was made when Matthew was living in Tokyo on an Australian Council residency C-Print20 x 24 inches Matthew Sleeth sleeth.info Matthew Sleeth (b. 1972) is an Australian artist who lives and works between Melbourne and New York. His practice is conceptually driven across a range of media, including photography, video, sculpture and public installation. His work has been widely collected and exhibited throughout Australia and internationally including; New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Cologne, Berlin, Venice. Matthew has exhibited as part of a number of international events including the Odense Triennial (Denmark), Berlin Photography Festival, Noorderlicht PhotoFestival (Netherlands), the Venice Architecture Biennale, Art Chicago and the Melbourne International Arts Festival. In March 2009 his exhibition Various Positions opened at Claire Oliver Gallery (New York) and in August 2009 he participated in Long Distance Vision at the National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne). In 2005/6 Matthew lived in Tokyo as part of the Australia Council’s studio residency program and was named one of Australia’s 50 most collectable artists by Art Collector magazine in 2006 and 2008.
