A 1970s design classic - the 2133 Arteluce ceiling light by Gino Sarfatti . Gino Sarfatti (1912-1984) established Arteluce in 1939, and created more than 400 of classic lighting and other designs in his lifetime, including the 2097 chandelier (still in production) and the Triennale floor lamp. In 1973 Arteluce became a division of Flos. A large range of Sarfatti's designs (including this one) can be seen on the website of the Galerie Christine Diegoni in Paris. The 2133 ceiling light was created in 1976 and was sold under the Arteluce label. At some point (after we bought this item) the Arteluce label was discontinued, and the 2133 light was sold for a while under the Flos label. It is now out of production, I believe. Sarfatti often emphasised the light bulb in his designs (search for an article by Catherine Wagley called "It's all about the bulb") , and the 2133 model is a good example - the bulb can be seen from above and below the lampshade. We bought this particular example in 1997 from London Lighting in the Fulham Road. After a couple of months in our sitting room it was taken down, covered in bubble wrap and put in the attic, where it has remained ever since. So it's in very good condition, and the bulb should have a lot of life left in it. All photos are of the actual light being sold. Details and dimensions. This piece read more
