I've been advised by a very helpful eBayer that this is an ARTILLERY SPIKE. It does have what appears to me to be a CROWN stamped into the middle of the crosspiece. It's all metal with a triangular blade. I'm told it was used to spike artillery pieces in order to disable them in case they might be captured and used by an enemy.
