This is a 10 1/2" high, 2 1/2" thick, and 9" wide bronzed mold of the face of artist Paul Gauguin. It has a bronzed appearance on the face but more of a plaster appearance on the back. I cannot say what it is actually made of, but it is heavy and in excellent condition. T is a handwritten tape on the back which says "Gaugun Bronze Portrait, Paul Gauguin". I did some research and found it pictured on a website claiming it was his death mask. I have no other proof that he actually had a death mask made, though he did do numerous self portraits. T is a tiny hole at the top so that the mask can be hung. Excellent piece and certainly unusual.
