If you're a figure model collector, then you surely know the name of Thomas Kuntz, as his amazing output of fabulous figures has dazzled collectors and peers alike for over 25 years. This superb piece was released through Kuntz's company, Artomic Creations, back in 1997, and is one of the finest models of its era. It's a brilliantly crafted 1 /6 scale figure of true proportions and meticulous detail, with a stunning portrait of Veidt's maniacal visage as Gwynplaine (an image that Bob Kane claims influenced his creation The Joker for the Batman comics). For the uninformed out there, The Man Who Laughs was released in 1928, a classic silent film adapted from the novel by Victor Hugo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame). In it, Veidt plays Gwynplaine, the rightful heir to the British throne, who is sold to gypsies as a child. Under direct orders from King James, the boy's face is literally carved into a perpetual, wide grin, forcing him to travel the sideshow circuit as a freak, and later, a clown.
