This auction is for a NEW, handmade, matte glazed porcelain tile and a beautiful New Mission Style quartersawn oak frame. The porcelain landscape tile is 6" X 6" X 3/8" and has been hand painted. The glazes are richly colored and textured like Grueby glazes, and are applied by hand in the same manner thawith at a painter applies paint to a canvas, which means that each tile is an individual painting. This tile depicts a moonlit night scene. Although this landscape design is loosely adapted from some early 1900's German tiles, several people have commented that this scene has the look of an Arthur Wesley Dow composition. I do draw on the Arts and Crafts Style and take some inspiration from the Rookwood vellum painted tiles as well. The tile is signed and dated on the back with the Lyn King logo, the signature that Lynette King (me), has been using for over 35 years on her studio pottery and tiles. The quartersawn and well made oak frame is 11 1/4" X 11 1/4" X 1" and has mitered joints. It is put together with biscuit joinery which can be seen on the outside corners on the side view picture. The beautiful fine grain and flecking of the wood is enhanced by the fact that this frame has been fumed, stained, oiled several times with linseed oil and then waxed to a soft and natural sheen. Only fuming turns the wood dark, and the flecking read more
