This is a lovely octagon shaped Hasami-yaki porcelain bowl from the Kinpo-gama or kiln which is located in the town of Hasami of the Nagasaki prefecture, called Hasami-yaki ware. The 'tebineri or hand-formed open work of reticulated porcelain is finely placed, overall the bowl is a good quality and very well made.The two layers created by the hand formed and rolled pieces that create the reticulated open work is called 'sukashi' in Japanese.The white porcelain is fine, the center is hand painted in an underglaze blue lotus flower design, the upper rim a combined floral motif.The bowl sitson a nice wide and centered kodai or foot with a design similar to a short compote or a fruit bowl in other countries and sits perfectly flat with a pattern similar to the comb which looks similar to one called 'genjiko'.This beautiful bowl is in excellent classic condition with no cracks or chips. This piece dates to the latter part of the Showa period of 1926-1989 and is underglaze signed on the bottom with the name of the Kinpo Kiln.A fine Japanese blue and white openwork porcelain bowl.Diameter 9 5/8in.
