The Atom #29 Feb./March 1967; 1st solo Golden-Age Atom crossover in the Silver-Age; I can not recommend this book in strong enough terms, absolutely a no-doubt NM- 9.2 in any universe. Very close to perfect, and any blemishes are virtually imperceptible. Has a few of the most miniscule and unoffensive spine stressers you'll ever see, resulting in almost no color break. An isolated spot near the bottom of the open edge has a superficial wrinkle from w it was lightly opened, this causes a spot of maybe 1mm that barely breaks color on the villain's purple boot nearest the open edge. Check out the supersized scans to see how incredibly minor that is. If you squint you may also be able to make out maybe half of 1mm spot of color break from an extremely light wrinkle near the top open corner, which I mention in the interest of full disclosure, but this is such a NOTHING defect. I can't stand using so much energy trying to describe a few flaws so minor that they give one trouble trying to paint an accurate picture. The fact of the matter is that for this or any other book in this incredibly exclusive grade, the attributes dominate the visual experience, not the imperfections. Color and gloss on this baby make it look like it just came out, as does a beautiful NM quality back cover. Cover surfaces are PERFECT, clean, smooth, and wrinkle and impression-free. Interior pages are crisp and bright, they appear to me to be off-white to white at worst, if not just white, its borderline. Either way, top quality interior pages! The flaws I have attempted to describe are so minor and are BARELY enough to keep this 1967 DC classic from a 9.4. This book is easily the equal of hordes of CGC 9.2s and even many of the 9.4s I have owned and sold. The corners and edges are unquestionably worthy of NM quality, and what's more, it is even cut and wrapped dead perfectly, with the staples centered right into the sides of the spine. To find a book with NO printing and bindery defects to go along with only a few of the absolute nitpickiest imperfections is truly RARE! Overstreet value in grade is $230; I believe this is a sure bet for a CGC 9.2 ( certainly has a fighting chance at 9.4) and as such could command up to $300 (way more should it be returned as a 9.4). Purely as a collector and not an investor, I find a Mylite2 with archival micro-chamber paper to be the most attractive packaging currently available, you don't have to pay CGC prices for the same quality, and you can still handle it when you wish instead of staring longingly through a plastic case! This comic comes with a certificate signed by the owner of VCI. It states the grade and has a small space w some grading comments are made, and a VCI seal icon is also on the certificate. All certified VCI graded comics come in a Mylite 2 bag with a fullback acid-free backboard. All certified comics also come with micro-chamber paper inside the front and back covers, just like the CGC uses in every book they encase. This paper absorbs the chemical deterioration that comes with the aging of the paper and inks, so these certified books feature some very nice and fairly expensive storage supplies! High grade Golden and Silver-Age comics from major superhero titles alone have increased anyw from 75% to almost 200% in the last 5 years. The demand will always dwarf the supply available of these high grade treasures!
