William Harnett, Jefferson Chalfant, Richard La Barre Goodwin, John Frederick Peto and Nicholas Alden Brooks are just a few names that come to mind. However, when I saw this painting I thought of George William Whitaker . Not only because of the faint "G.W.W." monogram on the back of the stretcher, but also because of the painting's quality and subject matter.
