As you may have read in some of my previous listings, not all gold record sales awards were created equal and the individual collector ultimately decides what is really collectable. For too many it’s the RIAA certification only that they prize, but for others it is the overall rarity of the award. And many different factors determine rarity and collectability. Many of the smaller labels in the seventies choose not to pay the RIAA the big bucks necessary for the official certification. Not only small labels but larger labels also, I believe A&M and maybe even Atlantic Records at some time choose not to cave to RIAA financial requirements. Also a consideration of the serious collector is the artist popularity or just how many gold sales awards the artist had received. Another consideration might be the songs target audience/format, chart position, total number of sales, or dollar volume. So what we are offering here, for a no reserve auction, is another terrific example of what I speak.
