This is a very rare Atwater Kent 1-Stage amplifier intended for arrangements requiring a single stage of transformer coupled audio frequency amplification. From about 1922, this 1-Stage is much more rare than the 2-Stage amplifier and should be in your antique radio collection. The Radio Age May 2005, Volume 30, No. 5 on pages 4 and 5 indicates the Atwater Kent 1-Stage Amplifier #4030 was made in three versions. The first with a black knob and an ID tag with the "2" milled off and a "1" stamped in the milled space, a second version with a brown knob and the "2" painted out, and a third later version with a brown knob with the "1" etched in the panel. Atwater Kent had a propensity to use available labels on new items (in this case from the more common 2-Stage amplifier units) until such time as new labels could be made. Thus the unit up for auction is a very early second version of the 1-Stage audio amplifier (see photo of label). The unit is complete with original green case, no cracks or chips except for a crack about the right rear bakelite panel mounting screws shown in the photo. Transformer checks good. One side 1880 ohms and the other 3260 ohms. The green paint is very good for age with a nice label described above. Sold as is. Shipping to US only.
