SANDERSON, Sir William] [1586-1676]. Aulicus Coquinariae: Or A Vindication In Answer To A Pamphlet, Entituled [entitled]The Court and Character of King James; Pretended to be penned by Sir A. W. and published since his death, 1650. London: Henry Seile, 1650. First edition. [8] + 205 pages. 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches. Leather binding, perhaps 19th century, with covers reattached and backing laid on. The backing has 5 raised bands with gilt stamped leather label, very bright and clean; inner hinges have paper laid for repair. New end pages, with text beginning with the title page (missing the half-title page, if called for). All edges tinted deep red by the binder. Former owner's armorial plate on front paste-down. Another former owner's name on the verso of the blank binders' page. Light pencil mark on title page, may be erased. Some aging to the paper, but clean and unmarked. Also, on pages 74-98 is an accout of Sir Walter Raleigh and his voyages to Guiana and Virginia. Good plus. Hardcover, leather binding NOTE: Former owner's armorial plate on front paste-down is that of Brown of Waterhaughs, with lion atop crest, holding a fleur-de-lis; motto given "Tandem licet seno"; engraved by Lizars. A nice addition to this rare title. ____________________________North Country Books started in August 1994. As an open shop it existed for 14 years, read more
