This is an original unissued Australian entrenching tool helve and cover, in unissued condition. Unfortunately this is the cover and helve only, there is no tool head available.The cover is maker and date stamped D.C.M.D/I/D1944 The helve came with this cover when purchased and is the earlier pattern without the fitting for attaching a No.4 Enfield bayonet (used as a mine probe).This makes sense and seems to verify that it is an Australian helve as the Australian forces retained the SMLE rifle and 1907 Pattern bayonet, and would not have had helves capable of accepting No.4 Enfield socket bayonets.Please see the photos.I'm listing a few items and will be happy to combine postage to keep the cost down.
