PORTRAIT CHARGER PLATE 13 INCHES MYTHOLOGICAL SCENE FROM A PAINTING BY ANGELICA KAUFFMANN This absolutely stunning portrait charger plate has a mythological scene that is a copy of a painting by Angelica Kauffmann. The plate has the bindenschild (beehive) mark on the back. T is no other mark . Some research that I have done suggests a couple of studios that this plate could have been decorated in. Josef Riedl was famous for decorating plates and copying Kauffmann's paintings, an art in itself! I have also seen an urn decorated by Victoria Schmidt & Co that has this almost identical pattern. The plate dates from the early 1900's. The colors are a rich deep red and green with gold filagree and heavy gold dots. T is also a heavy gold trim with raised dots around the portrait itself. Notice the almost bee like design on the gold trim on either side of the portrait which depicts 3 beautiful ladies with a cupid with his quiver and bow laying on the floor. T is wear at the bottom of the plate w the gold filagree (shown in the picture) has worn but otherwise the plate is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or crazing. This plate has holes in the foot w it could be hung on the wall. This beautiful plate would make a wonderful gift this holiday season to anyone who collects portrait plates.
