In November, 1812, President Madison appointed Josiah Meigs surveyor-general of the United States. He moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. Two years later he was appointed the Commissioner of the U. S. Land Office in Washington, D.C. It is dated April 5, 1822! The land is in the Columbiana County, Ohio and is granted to Daniel Burns "The West half of the Northeast quarter of section fifteen, in township sixteen of range four in the district of Steubenville, Ohio, containing 79 acres and thirty seven hundredth of an acre.
