It is a match to the one I sold a couple of weeks ago and they were together. This one has an anchor scrimshawed on it with the crosshatch design on the tip of the back side. It also has the same old leather strap that was used to make it adjustable. It is the original strap and is quite worn. Please note that this one has a small section missing from the bottom where it had been literally worn through with use and the piece broke off and is long gone. Note the rough tool marks on the inside. I believe this was the owners first thimble and when he wore it though he made the second, heavier one. That would place this one in about the mid 1800's. It is 2" long and 1 1/8" wide. It is a real piece of sailing history and not to be missed by anyone that collect's authentic treasures of the time!
