If you like cinnabar lacquer work, this elusive dragon is a great addition to a collection. On close inspection you can find the layering, the handwork and the appreciation for the dedication given to this art. The dragon form box is covered in carved patterns and figures that can best be described as mythological renderings. The dragon box measures 5.25" side to side x 10" tip to tail x 9.25" high and weighs 1 kg. The cinnabar lacquer depth is over 125 mil and layer thickness about 0.75 mil, that's over 160 layers and therefore days before carving began. The interior is black lacquer and the shell seam is brass, a little tarnished in places. This dragon box has not been on display until now and looks to be in great shape. Has its original protective box.
