Reed & Barton's Love Disarmed may be the premier standout for American art nouveau figural design in the early 20th century. This is an old, estate example. Such old pieces are distinct from newer remakes and decidedly distinct from recasts, of which t are numerous examples in the marketplace. The major differences are in degree of detail, refinement, and finishing. This 13 1/2" long, 8.0 T. oz., ice cream slice has all of these qualities. The female figure is exquisitely detailed as only old pieces are. Her chest is stippled, the gossamer draping is highly textured, even her navel shows through. The cherub's face wraps around fully and is not lost in murkiness as is the case with new pieces. The poppy floral interpretation is as fully articulated as are the figures. The piercing on the blade is precise. Lastly, and very telling, the marks on this are sharp, fine and fully legible, right to the miniscule "Pat. Appl'd For," indicating this is a first issue. Other marks are the Reed & Barton hallmark, and the word Sterling. The condition is remarkable. T is no polishing wear. The blade is even and without burrs or nicks. It has just enough light surface scratches to yield a fine patina, as is true of the whole piece.Shipping is $ 10.00 for Priority mail insured.
