Here are three EIRE (Ireland) manufactured Authenticast 54mm figures from two, different sets (paint variation) of Authenticast Set #645 Infantry on defense, 1871. These epaulet-wearing, red-kepi fellows with the "French pack" [that through WWII featured atop it a tin pot (target practice for the enemy?)] are for the period of the Franco-Prussian War that France lost after their Emperor Napoleon III was captured on the battlefield. These three are among those photographed on Page 84 of the book The Toy Soldier Artistry of Holger Eriksson - Authenticast, S.A.E. and Malleable Mouldings: Military History in Miniature. The epaulets are the thing that gives away the topic: WWI 1914 French soldiers were made by Comet-Authenticast (as well as S.A.E. and MILICAST) in essentially this same uniform except without epaulets Holger Eriksson added his initials and Authenticast added the country of origin scribed onto the bottom of the base. Please see the photos as best evidence of condition. These are made of lead alloy and are not intended for children to play with.
