This 7-DAY AUCTION is for my wonderful GENUINE! AUTHENTICATED! STICKLEY Mission rocking chair made of solid quarter-sawn oak and produced between 1905 and 1913. Very limited production makes this a rare find. Excellent condition throughout, structurally sound, supremely comfortable, original finish. The springs and cushion were reworked sometime prior to 1985 when I purchased this chair from an antique dealer in New York, NY who specialized in antique Stickley furniture. Always treated with respect and properly cared for. The seat cover would be easy to replace should you choose to do so. As per the note below from Stickley's corporate historian, the only things not original to the chair are the reworked springs, cushion and cover and the red and yellow label is missing...t were remnants of the red and yellow label when we purchased the chair but the lemon oil treatments we were advised to use to keep the finish in excellent condition, long ago removed the rest of that label. Yes, it has the typical minor bumps and dents, but these are very minor flaws...the condition of all the wood on this rocking chair does not look like it's a one hundred year old piece of furniture...I am confident you will be extremely pleased with its condition. You may contact me to arrange an appointment to inspect the chair. You may pick up the chair from my home in Austin, TX (183 Research Boulevard and Oak Knoll area), or you may arrange with your shipper for them to pickup the chair, pack it properly and ship it to you. I cannot help move this chair, so plan on bringing a friend to help move it. I cannot pack and ship this chair for you, so please have those arrangements made with a professional furniture shipper or mover prior to bidding. Charles Stickley (1895-1928) founded and operated the Stickley and Brandt Chair Co. in Binghamton NY from 1891-1919. He manufactured period style furniture prior to introducing a line of mission designs in 1905. Judging by the very limited number of surviving pieces, when compared to the work of his brothers Gustav, L. & J. G. or Albert Stickley, we can assume that mission designs were a limited part of his production. Charles used two different shopmarks to identify his furniture. A rectangular yellow decal trimmed in red bearing the words, Stickley and Brandt Chair Co. above the signature of Charles Stickley and his title "Gen. Mgr.". In what appears to be his later chairs after 1913, the script Chas. Stickley is stamped into the rear apron. The company declared bankruptcy in 1919 nearly four years after Gustav Stickley's Craftsman empire failed. The workmanship exhibited in the furniture is admirable especially in these early pieces. From the photos it appears the rocker still has the original finish. The seat cushion and springs have been reworked. I hope this helps.
