The Pagani Zonda is a mid-engined sports car produced by Pagani in Italy. It debuted in 1999. As of June 2009, 106 Zondas had been built. Construction is mainly of carbon fiber. The Zonda R was created without restraint. The target: the ultimate performance at the racetrack without any implications of rules, except for safety, where no compromise is allowed. The engine is built by the racing specialists at Mercedes AMG, where the championship winning DTM cars are born, as well as the CLK GTR, probably the most devastating and effective weapon ever to compete in the GT series. Who knew track cars could look so good? The 2009 Pagani Zonda R, based on the Zonda and Zonda Cinque models but featuring a whole host of race only goodies, should be capable of levels of adhesion not even roadgoing Pagani cars can match. Saying a lot, considering the Zonda at one point held the production car lap record for the Nurburgring Nordschlieffe, perhaps the world's most difficult road course.
