In 1932 Pupier Chocolates issued a series collection divided into sets of 12 cards featuring various subjects and topics . After collecting a full series of cards , the album was submitted to the chocolate company in exchange for a free gift - usually something substantial such as a camera , vanity case or toy . To prevent the cards being re-submitted , these were then perforated with the letters cp and then returned to the collector together with the gift . The 12 cards each measure approx 2.5 ins x 2 ins with detailed rear text in French , including card number and product details . Given their history , the cards are obviously used and some have the perforation or clip marks described above . These are now very rare in complete sets and totaly original .
