WHAT—WOLVERINE AND THE XMEN 16 PAGE 1! WHO--Cade Kilgore! COMMENTS—This is it. Releasing art from my last last issue of Wolverine and the X-Men. I LOVED working on this book. It was great fun and I always enjoyed Jason's stories. He always provided good visuals to work with. An artists dream. This issue is about Kade Kilgore and documents his rise to King of the Hellfire club. In the script, all of Kade's narrative was done with captions but I thought it might be a little more interesting--and fun-- if Kade himself was personally telling us the story. Taking into account his narcissistic personality, I figured that he would want to be front and center. I first used this style of visual narrative way back in Generation X with Stan Lee doing the talking (written by Stan himself) and thought that worked well. Here on page one is where we first see Kade telling us his story as an insert in panel three. I dressed him in the prison gear to provide contrast with the back story and it led and connected to us to the present at the end of the issue. Notice that the BG panel has been expanded and colored blue. Editorial was still concerned about confusing the readers and we made these to moves during colors to help clarify.
