Baird Advertising Clock Vanner & Prests Molliscorium is an auction for an old Edward P. Baird advertising clock. Baird was an inventor who only made these clocks for a period of about 8-9 years mostly during the 1890's. He started in Montreal but quickly moved his business to Plattsburgh, New York. After his fling at clock making he went out to the midwest and got involved with manufacturing telephone parts. This Baird clock is his Vanner & Prests advertiser, of which t are many examples. Vanner & Prests were oil merchants and molliscorium was an oil for softening harnesses. Frequently, merchants selling molliscorium displayed these Baird clocks. I've owned two Bairds for over 20 years. The other one is the Clapperton (I included a photo of it). The Vanner clock has both strengths and weaknesses. The entire clock is original and in good running condition. The works are in good shape and complete with Baird's stamp. The papers are in reasonable condition. The dial is original , but with an appropriate paper dial.The pendulum is super. The main problem is that work was done on the door. My guess is that someone tried to refinish it and because it is made of a composite , some of the lettering was diminished. However, it appears that a great professional job of gold leafing was done way back that gives the door a nice,accurate, and read more
