Here is a rare first edition of Edwin Denby's book, Ballet . Dramatic, dynamic, exciting and moody dance and dancer photos by Alexey Brodovitch. Published in New York by J. J. Augustin. 1945 1st edition hardbound. Very good and clean book in a very good dustjacket. Few small spots. No marks or writing, no tears to book or pages. The corners are moderately bumped. Nice, clean and sound. The dustjacket corners are also moderately bumped and the spine of the jacket has some careful repairs, else it is attractive and clean. Corner of the rear endpaper is creased. The slipcase is damaged and in two parts. It has average wear with loss at the spine. 104 fantastic black-and-white photos by Brodovitch. Important and rare! 143 pages. It measures approx. 11 x 9 inches. This was purchased by us from a bookshop in Cairo, Egypt in the 1980s. Many of the older English-language books that had never sold in decades past were pushed behind new books as inventory was added. The book had never had an owner other than the bookshop that purchased it as new stock in 1945. The only wear came from the moderate handling it had gotten in the Cairo shop.
