A poignant card sent by Private Walter Balman to his sister. Walter John Thomas Balman, was from Barnstaple. He served with the 3/1st Royal North Devonshire Hussars, the Devonshire Regiment and the Hampshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 18th April 1918 whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment in Flanders. This postcard was sent from Morn Hill Camp, near Winchester in circa summer 1916 to early 1917 - although the year mark is not visible, the Morn Hill postmark is clear. The 3/1st North Devon Hussars were based here at the time. The postcard contains a brief affectionate message. I'm including a copy of his medal index card, commonwealth war graves certificate, and entry details from 'soldiers who died in the great war'. I'm also listing separately a similar card he sent to his mother. Check out my other items !
