Authentic Baltic amber stones, jewelry, and fossil inclusions This is a beautuful Baltic amber pendant with insect inclusions in sterling silver The amber stone is from Kaliningrad region, Russia, and the pendant was crafted in Russia. (Item is located in and shipped from Columbus, OH) This beautiful pendant is made of superior quality Baltic amber and set in sterling silver. The insect inclusion consists of a caddisfly (Trichoptera). Please see picture below for the dimentions in inches (1 in = 25.4 mm) Baltic amber is a fossil resin derived from extinct coniferous trees, Pinites succinifer and/or Pseudolarix sp. It was formed during the Eocene and Early Oligocene, 35-40 million years ago. Insects, other animals, and plant material, trapped in the resin, became perfectly preserved in amber, and represent rare species, most of which are currently extinct. Amber specimens present a tremendous interest for scientific study, and, thanks to their natural beauty, have a great esthetic value. It is hard to find another gem stone which possesses as much warmth, light, and mystery as amber.
