Offered for your consideration is an ultra rare 1850’s to 1870’s era – very large 16 ½” tall by 9 ½” wide silver plate six bottle cruet stand – cruet bottle holder made for a hotel by the Barclay & Cary Silver Company that was located in New York City. This is the first and only such server I have ever seen like this and I’m positive there were not many of these made, if even, others. Historically, Barclay & Cary was not a very large company and was only in business for a short time. There silver pieces are far and few between and represent some of the finest craftsmanship and artisan work. I cannot locate hardly any information at all on this very short lived company, but they did indeed exist and made some wonderful silver wares, in addition to, some limited hotel wares as well. There quality was stunning, as in the case of this most fantastic holder, it features four deer heads around the bottle portion that are done in a most highly detailed design. The four legs are made in the shape of a Victorian woman with clawed feet – claw foot and ball at the bottom of each leg. There is also a very ornate finial on the topside of the base.
