Well, I am sorry to report to all of you who have sent me countless emails and inquires on the old barn that I have been taking apart little by little-her days are numbered. The roof finally caved in on the south-southeast corner of the barn. Thus causing the whole roof to shift and collapse. I was still able to go in and get some pictures. I will try to email all of you who have boughten items from this old relic pictures of the tragedy. However, somehow, someway, as I was surveying the damage from inside the barn I just so happened to get a glance of the floor in front of the manger and t it sat! I don't know how or why but the cupola, which is perched on the highest point of the entire barn, made it all the way to the ground. Through broken boards, nails, lag bolts, and falling beams it managed to go unscaved of so much as even a scratch! Don't ask me.?!. I couldn't believe it myself. I had a hard enough time believing what I was actually looking at. Maybe stranger things have happened, yes? But this was 1 of the few items that illuded me as time ticked by on the old structure-HOW CAN I GET THAT CUPOLA DOWN FROM THAT ROTTING ROOF? Well, I guess all my concerns were answered by someone or something. I'll leave it at that. Anyhow, it is. Yeah, I know she has a few swiss cheese markings on her- I ain't complaining! The story alone behind this chunk of tin is worth alot to me. I am tempted just to hang on to it but, I figured it like this: I grew up running these fields with my 3 brothers and 1 sister, making hay, trapping pocket gophers, taking cattle out to pasture for the summer, chasing cattle when they would get out, hunting, doing field work, picking rocks, pulling weeds, milking cows, just to name a few of the things that helped shape us all into what we are today! I loved growing up on the farm. Being along side my grandpa and my dad everyday for my entire childhood has been an invaluable tool that I probably will never be able to pass on. Yeah, that sucks. But, something so simple as this cupola lasting through storm after storm, winter after winter, falling some 25-30 feet to the ground and remaining intact, why I would be a selfish fool not to let someone else enjoy it for years to come. We filled this barn many times when I was alot younger just so grandpa knew we would not run out of hay during the winter, along with 2 other barns at home and 1 other barn across the road from this one. (I might add the fool who moved into that yard has let both doors fall off and lay on the ground, & torn out countless boards out of the hay mound just to build a makeshift treehouse. This was a perfect water shedding barn that we had kept hay in for some 30 years until the elderly couple had passed on and the kids sold the place.Yeah, if your reading this, ya bonehead, pray to God tonight and ask for the brain he must have forgotten to give you! Get a clue.) I had to get that off my chest! So,I knew this would get alot of hits on ebay and deservingly so. How more of a fitting tribute to an old friend who stood long before I got , than to let hundreds even thousands pay respects and just take in her raw beauty 1 last time. She has seen me chase the girls, and raise some hell with the boys. (This was a valuable asset to have once we got older-he he!) And with that I say Thank You Old Barn. (This yard site is referred to us as Myers-the last name of the couple who had died in a car accident, leaving behind their 4 children. My grandpa bought the land 1st on the auction and no one bid on the yard and 18 acres of oak woods with a meandering crick running the whole distance of it. Well he bid once and won it.
