BATTLE CRY OF FREEDOM - Civil War - James McPherson – Gilt - Leather - Slipcase Widely acclaimed as the definitive one-volume history of the U.S. Civil War and winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for History, James McPherson’s Battle Cry of Freedom has been released in several versions since its initial publication. This is one of the finest and scarcest, the limited edition that was published by Oxford Press in 2003. It is leather-bound with full gilt edges, slip cased in a red buckram box, signed by the author, and numbered 203 of just 1,000 copies. The 786-page volume is richly illustrated with over 700 photographs, graphics, cartoons, and other images, and features 35,000 words in extensive captions by McPherson not present in the previous editions. Details and Condition : The book measures 11-1/4” high by 9” wide and is 2” thick. With the slipcase, it weighs over 7 pounds. The book is in very good condition. The slipcase has some wear, and the buckram is starting to fray a bit at the bottom (see photos). There’s evidence of a sticker having been on the upper exterior of the case. Other than that, this is a superb example of this scarce, signed and numbered edition, which sells on other sites for as much as $500. Shipping : This book and slip case will be well packed and shipped via insured Priority Mail with tracking and signature read more
