RARE-WW1 M1917 Winchester bayonet. I know you see "RARE" alot on eBay, it seems everything is "rare", but for those in the know, the Winchester make of this wicked bayonet was manufactured in far far lower quantities than its Remington made brothers.This bayonet is in very good condition and is still more than functional after 96 years!. This nasty piece of work has a blade at 17" which makes it longer than the M1905 Springfield bayo seen on the venerable M1903 Springfield rifle!. This bayonet was intended for use on the M1897 Winchester trench gun and the U.S. 1917 rifle. It will also mount on the WW1 British rifles. Many were in fact sold to England during the early part of the war. Those are stamped with British proof/acceptance marks. The British/Canadian winchesters are rare but the U.S. issue Winchesters are even rarer still, representing the fewest quantity made of all M1917 production ( with the exception of a very few mismarked errors).This bayonet is one of the U.S. issue Winchesters without british or conadian acceptance markings!. It was made for and issued to U.S. troops. Another plus to this bayonet is the fact that it comes with an even harder to get 1rst pattern prototype 1917 Jewel bayonet scabbard.
