Beach Haven New Jersey Crown Bottle Clevenger Long Beach IslandFrom its founding in 1930, to its closure in 1999, the Clevenger Brothers Glass Company of Clayton, NJ was known to produce hand blown glass that could fool the experts, blowing classic reproductions of early American South Jersey glass.Clevengers was well known to have produced special order commemorative bottles while the company has been operated by current owner Jim Travis. Offered here is an amethyst Clevenger crown ivy commemorative bottle honoring the Borough of Beach Haven, New Jersey on Long Beach island.The "crown ivy bowl" was chosen as the first Clevenger mold to be cut up. Used previously by Allie Clevenger to produce a bank for the Seagram Company, the mold was re-cut to accept two slug plate inserts. This bottle reads "BOROUGH OF BEACH HAVEN NEW JERSEY" on one side, and "THE QUEEN CITY SIX MILES AT SEA 1976" on the other. The base has the embossing "AMERICAN HANDMADE MOUTH BLOWN," plus the initials CB for Clevenger brothers. According to Clevenger factory records, only 200 of these bottles were made. It is one of only four different Clevenger commemoratives made using this bottle mold.The bottle stands 5¾ inches tall and is in excellent condition.
