Offering a fabulous Authentic Vintage Dayak sunhat made mid 20th century. As such, there is some wear, or "character" to the beadwork.This very traditional hat is hand woven of palm, with hand sewn cotton fabric applique, and old style beadwork.The bead design depicts 2 ASo dragon dog motifs.The beads are believed to be old glass trade beads, not the newer plastic ones used today.At the top of the sunhat is a coin and a sacred black and white hornbill feather. The hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros) plays a large role in the myths of the Dayak on Borneo. It is viewed as a messenger from the ‘other world above’, where the ancestors live, and it symbolises the good.This hat was displayed in an ethnographic show about Borneo at the Museum of Man in San Diego, CA.It measures Approx 18" in diameter.****I will work with you to get the best shipping price possible .
